Emigration clearance through various land borders of the UAE will be made easy with the help of a new state-of-the-art electronic gate system being implemented by the Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs .

Aabar system, a copy of the e-gate facility that allows easy entry and exit through the Dubai airports, will help Aabar card holders to get emigration, sitting inside their vehicles.

Speaking to 'Emirates24|7', Captain Khalid A bin Mediya Al Falasi, Director of IT Project Management, General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (DNRD) Dubai, said the Aabar card holders will get easy exit and entry through the ‘Aabar Gates, initially planned at Hatta, the UAE-Oman border.

"We plan to introduce Aabar Land boarder UAE e-gates initially at the UAE-Oman land border posts. Later it may be expanded to the UAE-Saudi borders also. The system is undergoing trial in the Oman-UAE boarder post at Hatta.

Explaining how the card functions, Captain Khalid said: "Aabar cardholders can display his or her card, while driving through the designated area, while the emigration officials will be able to read the passenger details using the RIFD card reader. By the time the passenger reaches the checking point, his emigration details would be already read by the DNRD officials. An officer will come out and verify the details with the passenger in the car, and if the two matches, his emigration clearance is completed. The passenger need not wait much to cross the border. He can easily move to the next country. If there is any discrepancy between the card details and the person in the vehicle, a double verification of identity or photograph is conducted by the DNRD official on duty."

The new system is on display at Gitex.

Gate for physically-challenged

DNRD has also introduced an e-gate system for differently-abled people who can check in through the UAE Gate. "This is the first such gate in the world to help physically challenged people. It has an in-built face recognition and finger print identification software, which enables people to avail of clearance sitting on wheel chairs even," Captain Khalid added.

Mulkiya renewals made easy

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police has designed a dedicated Sahel machine (Easy) that will help motorists renew mulkiya (car number plates), pay traffic fines and cater to other traffic-related needs.

First Leutenant Mohamed K Al Junaibi, Designing and Programming Branch Manager, said a prototype of the Sahel Machine is on display at Gitex.

"It will allow motorists to renew their car licences in just two minutes without going to the traffic departments or standing in long queues. We are getting lot of inquiries from car dealers, insurance companies and even malls to introduce the machines in their premises," said Junaibi.

While the traffic departments will be closed after office timings, Sahel machine will operate 24 hours. However, the project needs to be approved by the Abu Dhabi Police authorities for use in private premises.

"Without integrating these machines into the Abu Dhabi Police network, no transaction is possible," he added. – Emirates 24|7]
