The UAE's Red Crescent (ERC) on Thursday said it has so far delivered emergency winter aid to more than 20,000 refugees and people affected by the sever snowstorm in Jordan, since the UAE's Show Compassion (Tarahamu in Arabic) Campaign was launched last week by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

On Thursday, some 1,500 people at refugee camps in Al Mafraq Governorate benefited from the agency's humanitarian aid.

Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouie, Chairman of the Board of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), accompanied by officials and volunteers, inspected work at the Emirati-Jordanian Field Hospital in Al Mafraq, established in 2012 for refugees and is now serving some 800 outpatients every day.

The ERC official also visited Zaatari refugee Camp in northern Jordan to assess the relief needs.

Al Mazrouie noted that the ERC has asked for more volunteers to deliver relief aid to refugees in the kingdom.

He noted that the agency's effort in Jordan is being followed up by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and President of the ERC.

Last Tuesday, in addition to launching the Show Compassion campaign to raise funds for refugees in the Levant, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered a UAE humanitarian airbridge to send urgent relief shipments of blankets, winter clothes and food supplies to help refugees and people survive the current harsh winter conditions in Jordan and Lebanon, in addition to those affected in Gaza and other Palestine regions. - Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395275169325.html
