The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) is implementing a relief programme to assist people affected people by the floods and rains in Sudan as per the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and chairman of the foundation.

The UAE delegation left the country yesterday heading for Khartoum to supervise the implementation of the programme, which includes provision of food, shelter and health requirements.

The project targets thousands of families affected by the floods that swept across a number of Sudanese states, and resulted in large damages The ERC has received humanitarian calls from its Sudanese counterpart to conduct the relief operations and meet the needs including the basic foodstuff and relief supplies and others.

Dr. Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, ERC's Secretary-General, confirmed that the foundation is following the humanitarian situation in Sudan since the beginning of the crises caused by the torrential rains, and responded immediately after the disaster through strengthening capabilities of the Sudanese charitable organisations to carry out their relief roles towards the affected people.

Al Falahi also pointed out that the ERC delegation will oversee relief operations in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Sudan according to the programme that targets families facing dire conditions.

He also indicated that the delegation will discharge other field missions and meet the necessary needs of the floods victims by purchasing commodities from the local markets in Sudan.

The ERC Secretary-General explained that the programme meets the requirements of those affected, praising the spirit of co-operation and coordination between the UAE philanthropic body and the Sudanese counterparts to ease the suffering of the flood victims. - Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates-international/1395298824722.html
