In line with the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under the support of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC) is launching a massive campaign to end the famine in Somalia and to help millions of the affected people there.

The ERC set aside an initial amount of AED 100 million to step up relief and development operations in Somalia.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, expressed the concern of the leadership and people of the UAE about the current humanitarian situation in Somalia.

"Such situation requires rallying of regional and international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the affected people, to improve their conditions and to highlight the plight there," he said.

Sheikh Hamdan called on all segments of the community in the UAE to support the ERC's humanitarian efforts. He also urged the philanthropists in the UAE to support the campaign.
