On the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC), an initiative to carry out development projects has been launched by the authority to commemorate the Emirati martyrs who died while performing their national duty in the course of their participation in the Arab coalition's Operation Restoring Hope in Yemen.

As part of the 'UAE Martyrs' initiative, the ERC opened a camp for the displaced Iraqis in Erbil, Kurdistan, yesterday. The camp comprises 1,000 housing units which can accommodate up to 7,000 people, in addition to a clinic, two schools for boys and girls, an administrative centre, a bakery, a mosque, shops and a children park.

ERC Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi said during the opening ceremony that such projects were aimed at providing assistance to people in areas witnessing an influx of displaced people.

Meanwhile, the president of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, Masoud Barzani, praised the continuous efforts by the government and people of the UAE to improve the lives of the displaced people in Iraq.

This came as he received a delegation from the ERC, headed by Al Falahi, in the presence of UAE Consul General in Erbil Rashid Mohammed Al Mansouri.

Barzani offered condolences on the martyrdom of the fallen Emirati heroes.

He lauded the ERC's role in providing support to the Iraqi displaced people and the Syrian refugees in Kurdistan province of Iraq through a number of humanitarian and development projects. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395285332670.html
