ADEN: An Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) delegation has toured Aden city to assess the humanitarian situation and the scale of damage on the ground in Yemen.

The visit to the southern city in Yemen came in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and also instructions by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, and Chairman of the ERC, to scale up UAE's response to the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

Led by Dr. Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, ERC Secretary-General, the UAE aid team conducted a comprehensive survey with the aim of determining the actual needs of the city for educational, health, water and hygiene services.

In the education sector, the team visited a number of schools where the ERC seeks to maintain 153 schools which accommodate 138,000 students. The first phase will maintain and qualify 54 schools and equip them with furniture and supplies for the resumption of classes by next October.

As for the health sector, the ERC plans to maintain and qualify 14 health facilities - five main hospitals and nine clinics in Aden.

An Dh 4 million plan was also prepared for 40 wells to feed the main water station that serves 450,000 people or half of the city's population. A study is being conducted for improving the sewerage network. Three children parks will also be taken care of. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -
