A plane flew yesterday carrying 100 tons of medical assistance to Egypt, where it will then be delivered to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah Border Crossing, in implementation of directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).

The consignment is part of the 400 tons of medical aid donated by the Ras Al Khaimah-based Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (Julphar), and valued at Dh 12 million, in support of the health sector in Gaza, which is facing tremendous challenges due to the Israeli blockade. The remaining aid will be airlifted during three additional flights.

Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, ERC Secretary-General, stated that Sheikh Hamdan was closely following the evolving humanitarian situation in Palestine, noting that HH's directives underlined the UAE's pioneering humanitarian role in Palestine and supported the ERC's humanitarian efforts there.

'The health situation in Gaza is getting worse day after day, prompting the ERC to scale up its humanitarian work, so as to ease suffering and improve living conditions in Gaza,' he said.

He paid tribute to Julphar for its generous donation, adding that it had improved the ERC's health programmes in Gaza. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395273849060.html
