ERWDA participates in Environment 2001 Conference and Exhibition

The Environmental Research and Wildlife Development Agency (ERWDA) who participated in organising the Environment 2001 Conference and Exhibition has put out a prominent stand at the exhibition site. ERWDA pavilion was praised by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Information and Culture when he visited the pavilion during his tour of the exhibition on the first day.



Sheikh Abdullah, who was received by Mr. Ahmed Al Sayegh, Member of ERWDA Board of Directors, and Mr. Majid Al Mansouri, ERWDA's Assistant Secretary General, was briefed about ERWDA projects and programmes which is being carried out in the field of environment protection and wildlife. These include ERWDA's Geographical Information System (GIS) project which was developed from a research support facility to a comprehensive system providing all the necessary information for decision makers in the fields related to the Agency, conservation and management of environment and wildlife in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, in addition to the Agency's Remote Sensing project.



Sheikh Abdullah also acquainted himself with the newly published atlas which was issued by ERWDA on the occasion of the UAE National Environment day. The atlas identifies sensitive marine and coastal areas and other sensitive ecological systems in the Emirate which should be given priority in the event of an oil spill.



ERWDA pavilion also showcases the Abu Dhabi Emirate Environmental Strategy for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi from (2000-2004) which was developed after discussions with all parties concerned with environment and wildlife in the Emirate. All the strategy sectors were highlighted in six sign boards at the pavilion including developing environmental regulatory and monitoring systems, managing fisheries, use of water resources and wildlife, in addition to increasing environmental awareness and education.



Other two signboards one on ERWDA's mission and vision, and another about Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital were also on display. The pavilion also includes ERWDA's Annual Report for the year 2000 which was issued published recently reviewing the Agency's programmes and projects carried out in the last year. A huge map for UAE, which was taken in collaboration with UAE University and Japan Oil Development Company (JODCO), was also displayed at the stand. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
