Tokyo - Economy Minister Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi was received here today by Yuriko Koike, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister for National Security Affairs. The meeting, which was held in presence of UAE Ambassador to Japan Saeed Ali Al Nowais and a number of Japanese officials, discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them.

Sheikha Lubna stressed the importance of boosting UAE-Japanese relations, citing similarities in free economy and balanced economic and foreign policy.

"Despite being the sixth largest oil producer in the world, the UAE has adopted an economic diversification drive aimed at minimizing dependence on oil as a major source of income," she said.

Sheikha Lubna also referred to the progressive status enjoyed by the UAE women as one of the achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

She also hailed the Mother of the Nation H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her unlimited support to women empowerment efforts. "Women now constitute 33.4 percent of the UAE's labour force, up from only 9.6 percent in 1986. The UAE woman also plays an active role in political life with 22.5 percent of the Federal National Council members being women, one of the highest percentage among world's parliaments." Sheikha Lubna later held a meeting with Keiichiro Okabe, Chairman of Japan's Cosmo Oil Company and President of the UAE-Japan Friendship Association.

She also met with Nani Jushi, member of the Japanese parliament and discussed with him means to strengthen cooperation between businesses and private sectors in the two countries. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
