Etihad Airways continues to operate scheduled services to Cairo and Alexandria and is working closely with the UAE authorities to upgrade services where necessary, as a result of the ongoing political unrest in Egypt.

Since January 29, Etihad has operated three supplementary flights from Cairo and upgraded five aircraft, allowing the airline to accommodate an additional 1,020 passengers wanting to leave Egypt. Etihad has transported more than 700 UAE Nationals to Abu Dhabi during this period.

The airline has also continued to operate its daily scheduled services to Cairo and four weekly services to Alexandria, transporting thousands of passengers to the airline's home in Abu Dhabi and to other destinations across its network.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways' Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are pleased to have worked so closely with the UAE Government to help UAE Nationals, and passengers from around the world, return safely home.

"Since the events in Egypt began, we have worked hand-in-hand with the UAE Embassy in Egypt, headed by the Ambassador HE Mohamed Nakheera Al Dhahiri on this important evacuation project. Our support staff in Cairo have also worked hard to ensure the care of our guests during this difficult period.

We are currently assessing opportunities to provide additional relief flights or upgrade aircraft over the coming days if required".

Mohamed Nakheera Al Dhahiri, UAE Ambassador to Cairo stated: "Relations between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are strong, and we currently have many UAE Nationals residing in Egypt. We are proud to work in partnership with Etihad to ensure the safe transport of UAE Nationals and our own Embassy staff members home to Abu Dhabi where necessary".

The Etihad sales counter remains open at T1 Cairo International Airport from 11am - 4pm and from 11.00pm - 4.00 am, said a release. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
