Port-au-Prince - Emirates Humanitarian World's field hospital, was inaugurated in Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, to treat the victims of devastating earthquake, which hit Haiti recently.

The move, which aims at alleviating suffering of the Haitian people, follows the directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, support from HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and follow up from HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of Ruler in Western Region and Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

Transported directly from Abu Dhabi to Haiti, the field hospital includes a number of vital specialisations. Specialists, technicians and nurses from the UAE, France, the USA, Argentine and Egypt are voluntarily working with the RCA, which supervises over the field hospital.

Dr Saleh Al Taie, acting deputy secretary general for relief and projects affairs at the RCA and head of the delegation, said during the inauguration of the field hospital that the transportation of the hospital from Abu Dhabi to the remote corner of the globe "reflects keenness of the UAE and its leadership to alleviate human suffering in any part of the world".

He reiterated that the UAE was one of the first countries responded to the relief appeal made by the Dominican Republic to urgently assist the people of Haiti in the wake of earthquake.

Dominican Health Minister Humberto Salazar appreciated the initiatives of the RCA and Emirates mobile hospital to ease humanitarian suffering worldwide, citing the support rendered by the RCA to the Dominican hospitals, which are currently treating thousands of injured referred to those hospitals in the wake of the earthquake.

French Surgeon Juan Carlos Chachqas, medical director of the Emirates mobile hospital, said the medical team was keen to set up hospital in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince so as to be close to the victims. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
