Emirates Post has announced a 40 per cent drop in the rates of Express Mail Service (Mumtaz Post) to GCC countries with effect from October 27. An EMS dispatch weighing a minimum 500 grams, from the UAE to any GCC country will now cost Dh30 against Dh50 charged previously by the UAE postal authority. For every addition 500 grams, Emirates Post will now Dh10. Earlier the customer paid Dh15 for every additional 500 grams, an Empost official said.

The drop in EMS rates is currently applicable only to GCC countries, the official pointed out, adding, the recent drop in rates is expected to raise EMS traffic volume within the region. EMS rates for other countries around the globe will continue to remain the same. The EMS service established in 1983 has shown remarkable increase in business from and within the UAE despite stiff competition faced from the private courier companies in the country. Emirates Post guarantees delivery of mail and other postal items within 24 hours locally and approximately 48 hours to destinations worldwide. (The Khaleej Times)
