Destitute Moroccan heart patients will receive free treatment and undergo surgeries under a cooperation agreement between the UAE Red Crescent-sponsored Emirates World Heart Group (EWHG) and Moroccan Health Ministry and Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

Chairman of EWGH Dr. Adel Al Shamri signed the agreement with Director of Sheikh Zayed International University Hospital in Morocco Dr. Amin Al Hussani.

Dr. Al Husseini said the agreement, struck as per instructions of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and RCA President, would feature a joint mechanism for delivering curative and surgical services to poor heart patients as part of effort to enhance bilateral cooperation in medical professions. Dr. Al Shamri Morocco will be given special attention this year with the launch of the international UAE-Morocco programme for treatment of needy cardiac patients under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan.

'More than 100 open heart and catheterization surgeries will be conducted and 500 patients will be screened and treated. Some 150 paramedics will be trained,' he said, noting that one-year programme will involve prominent international cardiologists from the UAE, Morocco, France, Switzerland, Canada, US, Egypt and Argentine.

The non-profit group brings together some of the world's high profile heart surgeons and provides a multi-programme in heart care to needy patients around the world. It offers consultation clinics, open-heart surgeries and training programmes for doctors and nurses. It also donates equipment and medicines to needy hospitals.

The organisation, which works with local and international medical staff under the umbrella of the UAE Red Crescent, has conducted surgical and training programmes in Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Sudan and Bahrain. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
