The Emirates Group, which has been closely associated with the staging of the Dubai 2003 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund since the beginning, is keen on making the event one of the most successful meetings and the largest event of its kind ever to take place in Dubai.

Commenting on the extensive preparations of the Emirates Group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and Chairman of the Emirates Group, had earlier stated: "The Emirates Group is committed to making Dubai 2003 a phenomenal success. We have dedicated resources, staff and facilities to ensure that every delegate and participant takes away lasting memories of our city."

A spokesperson from Emirates told Khaleej Times that Emirates' offices worldwide have been successful in attracting business from their country's government departments and media. In addition, Emirates, the official airline of Dubai 2003, has announced three additional flights to London during the period of the annual meetings - two to Heathrow on September 20 and 21, and one flight to Gatwick on September 25.

Two Emirates Group companies - World of Events, DNATA's event management unit, and Arabian Adventures, Emirates- destination management company, have now joined forces to provide important support to the event. Additional staff from the Emirates Airport Services department have been brought in from other Emirates destinations to assist in Dubai. The award-winning international airline has also launched a special hotline number 204-4141 which is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A member of its Passenger Sales and Service Team will provide the delegates assistance and information on any changes or updates made to Emirates' flight schedules.

DCA, on the other hand, is readying the Dubai International Airport to receive the thousands of participants of the annual meetings. The X-ray machines at the customs have been replaced with a green and red channel facility which passengers can use when exiting the airport. (The Khaleej Times)
