The historic Emirati Nasa interns over the weekend held two inaugural alumni reunions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai that included a visit with leading Nasa scientist Michael Flynn.
The official club for UAE students interning at Nasa, the "UAE Nasa Research Fellows Alumni Organisation” and its 16 elite Emirati members add a deeper international dimension to an existing network of over 1,800 US Nasa intern alumni – the best and brightest from top US universities.
The Nasa UAE innovative partnership programme was the first of its kind for non-US citizens, created and delivered by UAE's Arab Youth Venture Foundation and Nasa Ames Research Centre under the region's only such official agreement for education with Nasa.
The mission of the UAE Nasa Alumni Org. is to utilise the interns' practical work experiences and ‘innovation and team immersion' gained at Nasa to engage and inspire a younger generation of Emiratis toward the study of science, technology and engineering and pursuit of dynamic careers in key UAE strategic growth industries.
Fifty per cent of the UAE Nasa interns enter their professional careers with companies such as Dewa, Adnoc, Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies, ADWEA and NPCC. Thirty per cent will enter their Engineering Masters programmes at leading schools such as Stanford University, Cornell University, Columbia University, and Masdar this fall. Twenty per cent remain in university.
Mejd Alsari, Nasa Fellow and President of Conferences and Events for the Alumni, states, "These reunions are of great importance in that they help us, the alumni, to discuss many issues.” – The Gulf Today
