Yesterday in Abu Dhabi, with the world's non-renewable resources fast depleting and an energy demand increasing rapidly, the need for renewable resources has intensified over the last three decades of the 20th Century.

The concept of renewable energy has been a hot topic in the UAE in recent years and this is why the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (DH) along with its partners decided to allocate the upcoming Environment Conference's main theme to Renewable Energy in the Arid Region. The event will be held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Conference will feature over 50 speakers discussing their experiences and views on renewable energy. Co-organizers include the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and World Renewable Energy Network (WREN). The main sponsor for the event will be ADNOC Group.

An exhibition will also be held at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre from Jan 28- 31, 2007, while the Conference is from Jan 28 - February 1st, 2007. February 1st will be fully devoted to "The Arab Regional Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development: Strategies, Policies and Plans," organized by ESCWA in coordination with the EAD, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Arab League of Nations.
