Matar Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, said the ministry will cooperate with the Ministry of Health in implementing measures to keep the UAE free from SARS."All expatriate workers are tested for infectious diseases before they are given their visas. From now on, they will also be tested for SARS which falls in the category of infectious disease. This will be in the interest of the country," said Al Tayer.

The Cabinet on Monday authorised the Ministry of Health to take all preventive and protective measures in cooperation with the authorities concerned to keep the country free from SARS and ban the entry of those coming from infected countries in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO). "The ministry is an executive body which will implement Cabinet decisions, but protecting the health of the UAE nationals and residents is the duty of the Health Ministry," he said. (The Gulf News)
