The Federal National council (FNC) held yesterday the 4th session of its 16th Legislative chapter which was chaired by its Speaker Dr. Amal Abdullah al Qubaisi.

The session was dedicated to the discussion of the Ministry of Health (MOH) policy. It was attended by Mariam bint Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, and Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health.

The Council called for increasing allocations of the MoH's Statistics and Research Centre to enable it to conduct regular surveys on the factors impacting public health and formulate plans and strategies to minimise diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, stroke and mental diseases.

The FNC emphasised the importance of creating special identity cards for elderly people to enable them get access to services and facilities, in addition to providing medical complex for elderly people in each emirate.

It also urged finalising of the mental health law to safeguard mental patients and workers' rights.

The Council tabled 15 proposals which will be submitted to the health, labour and social affairs committee for re-drafting. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395291071814.html
