Emirates Falconers' Club organised a three-category beauty contest for falcons as part of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX 2011). The beauty contest attracted many exhibitors, each of them showcasing their best falcons that have been cross bred in captivity. A prize of AED 10,000 was awarded to the winner of each of the following categories: Pure Gyr, Shaheen Gyr, rich quarter Emirates Falconers' Club formed a judging panel that used international standards to evaluate the birds.
After the panel eliminated those falcons that did not meet one or more of the required criteria, ten falcons from different categories were left to compete. The birds then were evaluated based on their weight, body proportions, feather colour and consistency, head details, legs, and overall beauty. The panel then announced the following birds as the winners: - Winner in Pure Gyr category: one of the falcons of Rainer Falcon Centre - Winner in Gyr-Saker category: ‘UAE Falcon' from Emirates Falcon Centre - Winner in Gyr-Peregrine category: one of the falcons from Yas Falcon Centre - The Pure Saker category was cancelled because none of the contestants completely fulfilled the eligibility requirements. One more contest will be held at the show; that for the best falcon exhibitor. This will give the winner a to-be-announced valuable prize from Emirates Falconers' Club. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
