Joyriders rejoice. The Ferrari World Abu Dhabi - the world's biggest indoor theme park - is now undergoing final touches ahead of its October opening.
Cameras were allowed in on June 2, giving a glimpse of the work on the tourist attraction next to the Yas Island F1 race track on the occasion of Italy's National Day. Mediamen were given a guided tour of Bell'Italia, a family ride that aims to give a taste of Italy with model villages as well as famous landmarks like the Coliseum in Rome, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and part of Venice, which will be surrounded by water once complete.
Two-seater models of the classic Ferraris, including the 250 California, will transport people around the attraction and there are also walkways for those who prefer to use their feet.
Close attention has been paid to detail with designers of the ride travelling to the Italian Alps to make sure they get the texture of the rock and stone accurate.
Bell'Italia is one of 20 rides that will be officially opened on October 28, including the Formula Rossa, which at 240km/h, will be the world's fastest rollercoaster.
It is currently being tested by crash test dummies filled with water to simulate as closely as possible effects on the human body before real people are allowed on.
Claus Frimand, General Manager of Ferrari World, told XPRESS that there would be something to interest everyone at the park.
He said: "We have the F1 simulators for the older crowd, the Bell'Italia is targeted at families and we have a toddler play area too. "Everything is on course to open on time."
The media tour also included the family of the Italian ambassador to the UAE, Paolo Dionisi.
He said: "I am honoured that the first Ferrari theme park will be opening here in Abu Dhabi later this year. Bell'Italia is an excellent tribute to Ferrari's Italian roots and the beauty of my country. I can't wait to come back with my wife and daughters when the park opens in October."
Andy Keeling, the park manager, added that plans were already in the pipeline to expand the venue still further with even more rides and attractions.
The current attractions include state-of-the-art race simulators, a driving and racing school, an aerial voyage of Italy and a G-force ride, which shoots people up 62 metres in a lift. – Gulf News
