Al Ain City in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi will host from Dec. 11-17 the Second International Festival of Falconry. The events of the festival, which witnesses the participation of 75 countries from around the world, will be held between a number of desert camps for falconers in Rimah region and in Jahili Fort in Al Ain.
Jahili Fort was awarded the 2010 International Architecture Award by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. It was selected from 95 distinctive buildings and urban planning projects from around the world.
The festival is an opportunity for falconers and those interested in falconry to directly exchange expertise through the Falconers Camp which offers an insight into the desert and Bedouins' inherent lifestyle.
The site of Jahili Fort will host the UAE pavilion which includes the government agencies' leading initiatives related to falconry and sustainable hunting, performances of popular folk troupes which reflect the state's deep-rooted heritage besides a market for falconry equipment and traditional crafts and an extensive programme of events and educational activities for various age categories.
There will be also wings for exhibiting the international initiatives to preserve birds, which highlight the vast efforts that have been made in falconry.
Jahili Fort's site hosts an arena for the exhibitions of participating countries which include exhibitions of horses and camels besides distinct exhibitions of falcons.
Moreover, an exhibition of paintings and photos that were selected in the first qualifying stage, which include competitors from the UAE and various countries, will be showcased. The jury, which is composed of UNESCO experts and specialists in arts and photography, will select the winning works in the two competitions. The festival is organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach) in co-operation with the Emirates Falconers' Club and the Council of British Falconers. – The Gulf Today
