A fire broke out in portacabins adjacent to an under-construction building near Abu Dhabi Gate City yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Teams from the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing, Civil Defence, Abu Dhabi Police and ambulances secured the area and guided oncoming traffic.

Emergency teams were quickly sent to the scene located within metres of a petrol station.

"I was on my way to work when the incident took place. Traffic tailback went back all the way back to the Capital Gate building on Khaleej Al Arabi Street,” said S.M., a Jordanian writer.

The building also sustained damage from the flames on at least three floors.

Two hours later, the cooling down process was under way and emergency vehicles were still visible at the site but traffic was flowing smoothly on the main roads.
