The first exhibition for Emirati women was inaugurated at the ‘Women in their Lives' gallery at the Women's Museum in the presence of Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, on Wednesday.
Coinciding with International Women's Day, the exhibition aims to empower a talented local female population as they reflect on life in the UAE, with an artistic rendering of civilisation and development.
Also present were Marwan bin Bayat, Director-General of the Private Office of Sheikh Majid; Saeed Al Naboodah and Dr Salah Al Qassim, Acting Director-General and Advisor, respectively, of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, along with a number of notable artists.
Sheikh Majid was guided through a tour of the Women's Museum by Dr Rafia Ghobash, Founder of the museum, who said: "The museum was established to become a heritage and educational centre to exhibit the roles of women who have had a positive influence on building the nation. The showcase will make this available for generations to come, and celebrate the pivotal role of Emirati women.”
The exhibition is a showcase of Emirati women and their daily lives, and features the works of Shaikha Latifa bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Naja Makki, Fatima Lootah, Latifa Saeed, Aliaa Zaal Lootah, Maitha Dumaithan, Khawla Al Marri and Hind Mzaina.
Ghobash continued: "Art has the distinct ability to capture civilisations over an extended period of time, and we are proud to be inaugurating the first exhibition to distinctly honour women as they share their Emirati identity and heritage.”
"Showing love for one's country is nothing new in the UAE, as a people who feel great pride for their country. Today this is expressed through art, in a language that will be universally understood but locally inspired, as women continue to fill their prominent role in the community.” – Khaleej Times
