The new building of Luxembourg embassy and Trade '&' Investment Office of Luxembourg in the UAE was opened on Sunday in ceremony at Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi by HRH Prince Guillaume, The Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg of Luxembourg, and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the UAE. This is the first and only Luxembourg embassy in the UAE, the Gulf and Arab region, Deputy Prime Minister '&' Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn said in remarks at the opening ceremony.

For his part, Sheikh Abdullah stressed on the significance of opening the embassy to further political, economic, financial, trade and cultural relations and cooperation between the two countries. "There are a lot of similarities between the UAE and Luxembourg. The two countries are bent on advancing their bilateral relations in all spheres." "The UAE is Luxembourg's gateway to the Gulf region and the Middle East. In the same way, Luxembourg is the UAE's gateway to Europe," he added.

Sheikh Abdullah also underlined the Gulf-EU dialogue on a free trade zone, expressing hopes that an agreement would be reached after 20 years of talks.

Asselborn said the embassy is expected to enhance the relations, partnership and friendship between the peoples of Luxembourg and the UAE in all spheres.

The UAE, he noted, is capable of serving as a bridge for Luxembourg into the Gulf region, and in the same way it is very possible for Luxembourg , which is a founding member of the EU, to become UAE's gateway to Europe.

In attendance at the ceremony were also Minister of Economy '&' Foreign Trade of Luxembourg Jeannot Krecke, Ambassador of Luxembourg to the UAE Georges Faber and Foreign Trade Minister of the UAE Sheikha Lubna Al-Qasimi.
