(WAM) The UAE refugee camp in Pakistan witnessed today the first delivery of a baby girl. Parents agreed to name her Fatima after H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President's Wife and Chairwoman of the UAE Women's Federation, in recognition of the UAE humanitarian efforts to help Afghan people at their plight. Father of the baby said that the assistance offered to them by the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) had alleviated their suffering of homeless, poverty, hunger and cold. ' The RCS has come in time to save us,' he said. Camp Supervisor Ahmed Al Buaineen gave Fatima's family more foodstuffs, blankets and money to buy clothes for the mother and her new baby. Meanwhile, the RCS and UNICEF jointly organised today a campaign to immunise children against measles and other communicable diseases. Over 200 children aged between 6 month and 15 years were immunised. The team discovered that 10 per cent of the children living in the camp were suffering from malnutrition due to the lack of food during their long trip from Afghanistan to Pakistan. (WAM)
