Islamabad - Pakistan's Minister of Information and Broadcasting Kamarulzaman Kayra expressed gratitude to the leadership and people of UAE for standing beside the Pakistani people in Pakistan's worst disaster in recent history that flooded one third of the country and left more than 15 million people homeless.

During a meeting with UAE's ambassador to Pakistan Ali Saif Sultan Al Awaji yesterday, the minister also briefed him on the current situation in the flood hit areas and the relief efforts on ground.

Ambassador Awaji asserted the keenness of the leadership of UAE and all the various organisations in the country on providing humanitarian aid to save the lives of the flood victims by providing food, shelter and appropriate medical treatment. The ambassador pointed out that as soon as the Government of Pakistan issued a call for help in the face of the disaster, the UAE sent its forces of humanitarian task to Pakistan and started rescue and relief operations jointly with the Pakistani army. He also alluded to the massive campaign in the UAE to collect donations for relief activities in the flood hit Pakistan. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
