Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, said that food security is "a human right and duty which should be guaranteed to all those who are facing a real famine risk. Receiving former UN Asst. Secretary General and Humanitarian Aid Coordinator for Iraq, Hans C. Graf Von Sponeck, who is currently visiting UAE, Sheikh Sultan added that, "a thorough look at the world map will reveal that the Third World, especially Africa, is experiencing abject poverty, drought , diseases and terrible famines .” Sheikh Sultan praised the humanitarian role Von Sponeck had played in his capacity as international coordinator, a role, he said, that had attached special attention to "humanitarian and outstanding problems related to peoples' rights in self-determination.” " Such tasks require a special sense of responsibility and special type of men,” Sheikh Sultan noted.

He pointed out that the Palestinian people were facing the Israeli military machine while the international community was unable to take the necessary measures to address the Arab-Israeli conflict. "This state of affairs is a violation of human rights and an unfair treatment of an unarmed people aspiring after freedom and establishing their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,”Sheikh Sultan said. He added that, " the world is currently entangled in a more deteriorating state of violence which will lead to wars and that peace has never been as threatened as it is today "The UAE top official called on the UN and international community to strive to establish the culture of peace, justice and dialogue among civilizations and religions.
