Rabat - Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday hailed a decision by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to build a US$100 million hospital in Casablanca as a move that reflects the deep-rooted brotherly ties between the two o countries.

In a statement made to the Moroccan TV, Sheikh Abdullah described Sheikh Khalifa's visit to Morocco as a "historic visit" aimed at further bolstering the strong relations, the foundation of which was laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late King Al Hassan II.

Sheikh Abdullah said that about 85,000 Moroccan citizens work in the UAE. "The UAE seeks to attract more of Morocco's skilled labour and to benefit from the country's expertise. A delegation from the UAE will visit Morocco later for this purpose," he added.

Sheikh Abdullah praised the outcome of UAE-Morocco higher joint committee meetings. He affirmed that the two countries share identical points of view on the current developments in the Middle East and the Israeli aggression against Lebanon.

"Leaders of the two countries stressed the need for the international community to play an active role in reviving the peace process in the Middle East. The Arab peace initiative, passed by the Beirut summit, carries a lot of ideas and elements that could help re-enliven the peace process," Sheikh Abdullah commented.

He expressed the hope that the international community will put an end to Lebanon's plight, describing the Israeli stand as "obstinate." He called for intensifying efforts to assist Lebanon, saying that, to be efficient and effective any Arab role must come within the framework of international efforts.

He condemned the escalating Israeli attacks on Palestinian people and renewed UAE support to the national rights of Palestinian people. "To realise comprehensive and just peace in the region, Israel must comply with the international legitimacy's resolutions." Sheikh Abdullah also reiterated UAE's keenness to respect unity, sovereignty and independence of Iraq and non interference in its internal affairs.

He also renewed UAE's support to the efforts being made to achieve reconciliation among Iraqis and to impose peace and security there. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
