Foreign Minister meets Indonesian counterpart

Jakarta - Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met here yesterday with his Indonesian counterpart Dr Marty Natalegawa. They discussed bilateral relations and ways to boost cooperation in all fields. Sheikh Abdullah praised during a press conference held after the meeting the progressive ties between the two countries and expressed UAE's desire to further ties of friendship and cooperation with Indonesia which enjoys and influential role, especially in the Islamic world.

He also emphasised the importance of strengthening economic, commercial and investment relations in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and General H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Abdullah said Indonesia enjoys huge industrial, agricultural and commercial potentials and welcomed the Indonesian companies' participation in the industrial development witnessed in the UAE.

"There is always room to increase flights between the two countries," he added.

Sheikh Abdullah underlined the great care and attention given by the Emirati leadership to the welfare of the Indonesian community in the UAE, under the legislations and regulations that safeguard rights of workers in the UAE.

For his side, Dr Natalegawa welcomed Sheikh Abdullah and thanked him for his visit to Indonesia. He also thanked the UAE government for always standing by Indonesia.

Dr Natalegawa called on the Emirati businessmen to benefit from the facilities offered by Indonesia to investors and to invest in the tourism, real estate and services sectors.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the formation of the UAE-Indonesian joint committee for bilateral cooperation.

An agreement on visa waiver for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports was also signed.

Afterwards, Sheikh Abdullah met with Alwi Shihab, Special Envoy to the Indonesia President to the Middle East, and reviewed with him bilateral relations and potentials for cooperation in the fields of economy, investments and renewable energy.

Sheikh Abdullah and Shihab also attended part of the UAE-Indonesian Businessmen Forum, currently held in Jakarta.

Sheikh Abdullah also met with Indonesian Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa. They explored opportunities for joint investments in the fields of agriculture, alternative energy and technology.

Rajasa expressed the hope that Sheikh Abdullah's visit will contribute in boosting commercial and economic ties between the two countries. The meetings were attended by senior UAE and Indonesian officials. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
