UAE positions itself at the forefront of the world countries in extending humanitarian help and support to overcome disasters, poverty, underdevelopment and epidemics whenever they strike in one part or the other of our planet; said an Arabic daily newspaper yesterday.

In an editorial commenting on UAE's celebration of the World Humanitarian Day on Friday, 'Al-Bayan' newspaper said that the celebration of the occasion by the UAE Red Crescent and scores of other charities in the country represents a renewal of UAE's resolve to provide relief and humanitarian aid when it needed in several parts of the world.

Last year alone, Dh9 billion were spent by UAE to finance its various humanitarian and charitable projects in 90 countries; noted the paper.

This abundant flow of charity emphasised the strategy of humanitarian aid, which is the cornerstone of the country's foreign policy that is guided by the directives of President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said the paper.

It was this guidance that helped UAE to accelerate itself and join the rank of nations in the forefront leading humanitarian operations when disasters struck, opined the paper.

The celebration of the World Humanitarian Day by the international community yesterday is recognition of the necessity of solidarity of the entire humanity together in the face of obstacles to development. This solidarity is needed for fighting poverty and the alleviation of human suffering resulting from natural disasters as well as from wars and conflicts, in which innocent people become displaced; the paper said.

It added that UAE's prompt response and mobilisation of its armed forces and relief agencies to help the many millions of people in Pakistan by giving them first aid, relief and rescue as large parts of that country sank in the floods is a good example of the country's ongoing humanitarian march.

It also said that this year the celebration coincides the holy month of Ramadan and UAE's initiatives for providing Iftar meal in many parts of the world asserts the humanitarian feeling which guides the country's leadership and its people as per the teachings of our noble religion Islam. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
