The UAE foreign policy needs to interact with the prevailing international relations order with the aim of taking advantage of the available opportunities, avoid risks and address growing challenges, according to Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

'Proficiency, adeptness, adaptation, acumen, forecast and dynamic movement are needed- in the right time and place- to deal with these opportunities, risks and challenges,' Sheikh Hamdan told the third annual symposium on 'UAE Foreign Policy : Outlook for 2015', organised yesterday by the Emirates Diplomatic Institute of the Foreign Ministry.

Sheikh Hamdan, who is also Chairman of the Institute, called for the forum to explore all possible best and worse case scenarios for the UAE foreign policy. 'Positive and negatives consequences of each scenario and policies needed to address them should be examined,' Sheikh Hamdan said in an address read on his behalf by Foreign Ministry Under Secretary Abdullah Rashid Al Nuaimi.

Sheikh Hamdan stressed the importance of conducting a thorough, in-depth analysis of each scenario based on practical and knowledge-derived forecasts.

Sheikh Hamdan noted that the record of present reality of the UAE foreign policy is replete of positive achievements, the most prominent of them is the leading standing enjoyed by the country at regional and international arena. A number of research papers on expected development at the Gulf, Middle East and the world were discussed. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
