Two Indonesian women hostages who were held by an Iraqi militant group and released last Monday arrived in Abu Dhabi last night. The two women were received on arrival by Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Red Crescent Society and Faisal Bafadal, Indonesian ambassador to the UAE in addition to other Foreign Ministry officials. In a statement shortly after the arrival of the two women, ambassador Bafadal extended the gratitude of his government to the UAE for facilitating the arrival of the two women.

The two women would still be in Iraq if it were not for the efforts of the UAE and specifically the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

For his part, Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi said that Sheikh Hamdan had closely followed the situation of the freed hostages until they were handed over to the UAE mission in Baghdad. He added that as soon as they were released, Sheikh Hamdan ordered that any possible assistance be given to them on humanitarian grounds. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
