The UAE has become an ideal destination for innovators, writers, thinkers and intellectuals from across the world, H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, said while opening this evening the first Fujairah International Arts Festival being organised by the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority (FCMA) at Fujairah Corniche as part of the emirate's efforts to host international cultural and arts events.

'The UAE is embracing artistic and cultural initiatives and projects and hosting high-profile, large international artistic festivals to entrench its standing on the world humanitarian landscape,' H.H. added.

'The Emirate of Fujairah is proud of its influential role in the artistic and cultural movement that the UAE is currently witnessing and its achievements in the global cultural landscape. Today, Fujairah is playing an active role in reshaping the cultural scene and is also proud that one of its citizens, Mohammed Saif Al-Afkham, Director General of FCMA, is the incumbent President of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), becoming the first Arab national to hold this international prestigious position,' he said.

The event will run from February 19th to 28th, and has attracted 700 artists, cultural personalities and VIP guests from 65 Arab and foreign countries. It involves music, theatre and dances.
