The GCC ministerial council concluded its 116th session under the chairmanship of Kuwaiti Deputy Prime and Foreign Minister Dr Mohammed Sabah al-Sabah.

The council expressed good wishes to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the President to the UAE, who has recently undergone a medical check up.

The ministerial council highlighted the positive outcome of the participation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz at the summit of g-20, held in last June in Toronto and said the comprehensive speech delivered by King Abdullah stands as a witness for his farsightedness and wisdom.

It also commended the speech of King Hamad bin Eisa Al Khalifa of Bahrain in which he reiterated determination to go ahead on the path of development and reform as well as his call to confront the menace of terrorism with all of its forms in addition to adherence to the values of Islam which advocates tolerance, love, fraternity, mercy, peace and cooperation as well as moderation.

The ministerial council welcomed the outcome of the visit of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Qatari Emir, to Yemen on July 13, 2010, and his meeting with Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Salih, highlighting the significance of hosting the delegations of the Yemeni government and Houthis by Doha.

The council congratulated Sultan Qaboos of Oman on the 40th anniversary of the renaissance day, which fell on July 23, 2010, and hoped that Oman would go ahead on the path of progress and prosperity.

The council praised the outcome of the visit of King Hamad bin Eisa al-Khalifa of Bahrain to Egypt. It reiterated its support to Bahrain which has recently announced dismantling a terror network, and voiced support to the measures that it might take to confront the menace of terrorist acts.

It urged countries of the world notably the United Kingdom to expel terror elements from its territories and not to allow them practice subversive activities.

About the Iranian occupation of the UAE's islands, the ministerial council reiterated the sovereignty of the UAE on the three islands, expressing sorrow for failure to reach positive results regarding the settlement of the problem of the three islands.

The council urged Iran to positively respond to the UAE's efforts which aim at solving the problem through direct negotiations or resort to the International Court of Justice.

The council reiterated adherence to the pillars of good neighbourhood with Iran and to avoid intervention in domestic affairs as well as solving disputes through peaceful means.

On the Iranian nuclear issue, the council reiterated its inalienable stand on the importance of adherence to the principles of the international legitimacy and settlement of disputes through peaceful means. The council called for making the Middle East region including the gulf region free from weapons of mass-destruction. It hoped that Iran would positively respond to the international efforts that aim to solving the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic means.
