Riyadh: Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council concluded a summit in Riyadh yesterday with a call to bolster peace in the Middle East and ensure security and stability in Lebanon. The UAE delegation at the 7th GCC Consultative Summit was led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The two-hour summit discussed coordinating and unifying stands on different regional and international developments including the situation in Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon. "The leaders called for the necessity of uniting the Lebanese front and stressed their keen interest in the security, stability and prosperity of Lebanon. They also called for supporting peace efforts for achieving just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East," a statement issued after the summit said.

The leaders expressed hope the summit will bolster joint action to meet the aspirations of people in the region. The meeting coincided with the 24th anniversary of the GCC's inception.

Earlier, Sheikh Khalifa told the Saudi Press Agency: "In the UAE, we are fully satisfied at the position of the GCC at both regional and international levels and its noticeable achievements towards integration and coordination among Gulf states. We are always longing to enhance our joint march to attain more achievements that meet the ambitions and aspirations of our people." (The Gulf News)
