The GCC countries have pledged full political, economic, security and defence support to the Kingdom of Bahrain and expressed rejection for external interference in the Kingdom's domestic affairs.

This came during the 30th extraordinary session of the GCC Ministerial Council which was held in Manama. UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan took part in the meeting.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the GCC foreign ministers were briefed by their Bahraini counterpart Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa about the developments which took place in the past few days.

The agency said that the meeting was held within the framework of historic ties, fraternal bonds and the joint destiny of the peoples of the GCC countries.

The Council praised the speech of H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and his wise directives to strengthen national unity in the kingdom and to further strengthen foundation for the rule of law and freedom of speech.

The Council also referred to the decision of the King of Bahrain to form a committee tasked with probing the reasons that led to the tragic events and commended the achievements of his reform program to support building a highly responsible state based on respect for the institutions and laws and enhancing citizens' ability to exercise their legitimate rights for better future, prosperity and progress.

The Council also renewed the GCC countries' firm stand by any member country in confronting dangers posed at its security and reiterated full political, economic, security and defence support to Bahrain, based on the belief in collective responsibility in maintaining security and stability.

The Council confirmed that security and stability of the GCC countries is an integral part of the commitment to honour the joint security and defence agreements and conventions.

The Council reaffirmed rejection to any external interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, an active GCC member country, saying that any attempt to destabilise its security and stability is seen as a transgression against security and stability of the GCC countries at large.

The Council expressed further stability, progress and prosperity to the people of Bahrain under the leadership of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
