GCC defence ministers end meeting

The GCC Joint Defence Council concluded its fifth meeting which was held here under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammed Khalfan bin Kharbash, Minister of State for Financial and Industrial Affairs. The meeting discussed progress of work on different fields of military cooperation and coordination.



The participants reviewed a proposal put forward by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud to further develop the Peninsula Shield joint force.



Also discussed were reports on the progress of work on GCC Belt and Secure Communications projects, training and joint exercises. The council decided to appoint Brigadier Khalifa Humaid Saey Al Kaabi as Assistant Secretary General for Military Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat as of April 2007. He will succeed Major General Ali bin Salem bin Masoud Al Mamary. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
