Kuwait - Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) started their 30th Summit yesterday evening in Kuwait.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is leading the UAE's delegation to the summit.

His Highness the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah opened the summit with a speech in which he hailed the GCC march, built on cooperation and exchange of views for further achievements. He said the summit will witness the launch of the GCC electricity grid.

Sheikh Sabah rejected the aggression launched by infiltrators against Saudi Arabia.

"We all reject the aggression of some sneakers on the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, targeting its sovereignty and its security. We reiterate our condemnation and reprobation of such aggressions and hostilities," he said.

Sheikh Sabah expressed the GCC countries' concern over the terrorist attacks in Iraq. He called on the Iraqis to block the way for those who seek to destabilize their country.

He also expressed regret at the differences among Palestinians which gave Israel an excuse to stall efforts aimed at pushing the peace process. He also called on the Palestinians to rise above their differences to regain their rights and to establish their state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Sheikh Sabah urged solution to the Iranian nuclear dossier via dialogue and peaceful means. He also stressed the importance of joint GCC action.

He said the GCC summit's agenda contain political, social and economic issues, as well as development projects of interest to the peoples of the GCC.

The GCC leaders toured a photo exhibition held at the summit's sidelines. It displays 50 works depicting Kuwaiti-GCC relations, as well as strong ties among the GCC countries. The leaders then officially concluded their first closed-door session. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
