Abu Dhabi-based Gulf Aircraft Maintenance Co. (Gamco) is entering into a joint venture with BAE Systems to support Hawk aircraft of the UAE Air Force and also the Hawks of the other GCC states, officials of both companies announced yesterday. A contract is expected to be signed in early 2004.The partnership is not part of the Offsets obligations of BAE Systems, but a commercial venture.

With an annual turnover of US$250 million, Gamco has the capabilities for supporting both commercial and military aircraft and the company has made huge investments in the last two years to take on new business. In the past, Gamco has undertaken military support and maintenance work for the Mirage and Appache helicopter but through the latest initiative it would venture into supporting frontline aircraft such as the Hawks.
