UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash has called upon the Gulf countries to form a clear concept about political reformation and improvement of the institutions of political participation, if they wanted to face a changing world.

Delivering a keynote address at the 13th Annual Conference of Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) on 'The Arabian Gulf: Between Conservatism and Change', the minister said that the countries in the Gulf region should strike a balance between reformation and, political and social stability. The Gulf countries should take the regional situations into consideration and move ahead in calculated steps in its march to progress and development; the minister said.

At the same time, the region's and its people's peculiar identity, which stem from a set of fundamental values and heritage, need to be preserved when adopting changes based on others' experiences; Gargash reminded. He also said that while the countries can invest the positive aspects of globalisation for their economic growth, its negative aspects should be avoided.

He also said that the demographic anomalies existing in the Gulf countries need to be rectified to protect the national identity of each country. In this context Gargash reviewed UAE's solutions for this problem and the strategy presented by Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for a change emphasising continuous educational and training programmes for the citizens.

On the political side, the Gulf countries have worked with full consciousness to moot the foundations of stability and security, avoiding impulsiveness and uncalculated political adventures. They also refrained from resorting to the language of threatening, escalation and waging wars; Gargash noted. The ECSSR 13th annual conference, which began on 31st March, concludes today. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
