Gargash hails UAE leadership over achievements

Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign, said the U.AE. in its 42nd national day anniversary, has scored unprecedented achievements because Allah Has endowed it with wise leadership who harnessed the resources for building of the state of justice, law and prosperity.

He told over 100 journalists and media-persons representing 77 media institutions from 42 countries at Dusit hotel yesterday in Abu Dhabi, that while marking the national day, the UAE is also celebrating the winning of bid to host expo 2020, describing it as "a great achievement to be added to a series of huge successes attained by the UAE" He referred to advanced infrastructure, health services, housing, education, empowerment of women, higher education, research centres and specialised institutes nationwide.

Gargash said the achievements in the economic, cultural, trade, media and services, have enabled the UAE attract efficient cadres from the Arab world.

He thanked President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Members of Supreme Council, Their Highnesses Rulers of Emirates, on the national day and winning the bid to host expo 2020 in Dubai.

Gargash noted that the clarity of vision to the leadership has given the UAE a momentum to score more achievements, adding that the UAE has been growing steadily taking into account its basic values that existed before the Union.

On the UAE's stance over the U.S. - Iranian agreement, he said the UAE Cabinet has welcomed the preliminary agreement on the Iranian nuclear file, expressing hope that the step would lead to permanent agreement that would safeguard stability and protect the region from tension and risks of nuclear proliferation.

Gargash said that the UAE is looking forward to final agreement and peaceful Iranian nuclear programme in accordance with the international standards verified by competent authorities, noting that the final agreement would reflect positively on the UAE and the Gulf region when reached.

Regarding the UAE's stance over the current developments in Afghanistan, he said that the UAE supports the stability in Afghanistan and dialogue that brings all Afghan parties to the table to strike a peaceful deal. He noted that the UAE provided development and humanitarian assistance over the last 10 years more than what was committed by UN. Gargash regretted that there were some parties who obstruct peaceful solution in Afghanistan.

On the agenda of the GCC Summit in Kuwait next month, Gargash said it will discuss the integration among the GCC states and unify views on three issues: the preliminary agreement with Iran, situation in Syria and stability in Egypt.

Regarding the Geneva 2 Conference, he said the conference is very important and the GCC states support it to reach the peaceful deal, adding that there is serious humanitarian situation in Syria.

The UAE minister said Egypt is recovering after June 30, stressing that moderate stable Egypt is extremely important for the Arab region.

On the efforts to end the Iranian occupation of the three UAE islands: Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Mousa, Gargash said the UAE reiterates its legal and historic rights over the three islands, referring to the UAE statements at the GCC Summits or UNSC to assert the UAE's legal and historic rights over the islands. He added that the UAE is keen on amicable settlement of the issue either through bilateral dialogue or the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Gargash said the developments on the U.S. attitude towards Egypt were positive, adding that "We back the positive U.S. role to push forward the peace process in the Middle East based on the two states solution on the borders of 1967, with Al Quds (Jerusalem) as a capital of an independent Palestinian state.

On the Kingdom of Bahrain, he said the UAE is committed for security and stability of the Kingdom of Bahrain, referring to the improvement of political situation in Bahrain. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
