German Chancellor Angela Merkel to visit the UAE today

The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel, will visit Abu Dhabi and Dubai on February 5 and 6, 2007, according to Jurgen Steltzer, German Ambassador to the UAE.



In a statement to WAM, Ambassador Steltzer said the Federal Chancellor will be accompanied by Federal Minister of Economics, Michael Glos, and a high ranking delegation of German businesswomen and businessmen.



"During her stay in the Emirates Dr. Angela Merkel will hold meetings with HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister, Vice-President and Ruler of Dubai, and HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE" said ambassador Steltzer.



The Federal Chancellor will present a speech titled "Challenges for European Foreign Policy" at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) in Abu Dhabi on February 5, 2007 at 7 pm. Dr. Angela Merkel will also address a German-Emirati Business Forum held at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.



During the forum agreements between Emirati and German companies will be signed in the presence of the Federal Chancellor.



After the meeting with HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan two MoUs will be signed in the presence of the Federal Chancellor. One between Abu Dhabi University and the Technische Universitat Munchen (TUM - Technical University Munich), signed by Professor Dr. mult. Wolfgang A. Herrmann, President of TUM and Professor Dr. Reynold Macpherson, Chancellor and CEO Abu Dhabi University and one between Abu Dhabi University and the University Hospital Bonn .
