Labour minister HE Saqar Ghobash received in Abu Dhabi yesterday Thai Labour minister Uraiwan Thienthong. The Thai minister is in UAE to participate in the UAE-Thailand joint committee for activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries to regulate the employment of Thai workforce in the country.

The committee held on Monday its first meeting, which was attended by senior ministry officials from both countries and the ambassador of Thailand in UAE Karn Chiranond. The meeting reviewed the MoU signed earlier between the two countries and pinpointed the areas of preference to streamline joint work. The committee decided that the aspect of 'temporary contractual employment' specified in the MoU should form the framework for the joint programme, and the pre-migration phase should be tackled first. This phase is mainly to be regulated by the country of origin of the workforce.– Emirates News Agency, WAM
