A giant birthday cake for the nation weighing more than three tonnes and measuring 32 square metres on its surface will be unveiled today...and anyone can get a slice. The 'National Day Cake' is expected to be one of the main attractions at the Heritage Village in Al Shindagha and a 'cake ceremony' forms part of the impressive line-up of events organised by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

The cake ceremony is scheduled to take place from 5pm to 10pm. A total of 320 staff members from Jumeirah International properties have been working on the cake to finish it in a record 320 hours. The cake weighs 3,200 kilograms and measures 32 square metres in length. A total of 47 events, ranging from children's opera to street carnivals and fireworks are being organised each day at DTCM-managed heritage sites in Dubai and Hatta in addition to Deira City Centre, BurJuman and Mercato.
