Sales from the Middle East's biggest consumer electronics show, Gitex Shopper, is expected to top the Dh250 million mark in total sales after busy, fun-filled and discounted shopping for eight days.

Last year, the shopping event recorded Dh237 million sales and this year, major power retailers are expecting year-on-year growth in sales ranging from 15 per cent to more than 40 per cent.

So there shouldn't be any doubt the show will comfortably cross Dh250 million sales, Khaleej Times concluded after talking to big players at the show.

Sharaf DG is confident to achieve more than 40 per cent year-on-year growth in sales, Plug Ins expects 25 per cent increase in sales, while Jumbo is looking for around 20 per cent.

"We will issue the final numbers after Eid Al Adha, but the trends are similar like last year,” Dubai World Trade Centre exhibition director for consumer cluster Hemesh Chandavarkar told Khaleej Times.

Declining to provide any specific number regarding this year's sales, Chandavarkar said: "There are two Gitex Shoppers now, but the trend shows it [sales] will be better than last year.” With the UAE consumer electronics market currently valued at US$3.9 billion, Gitex Shopper has presented a strong platform for businesses to grow their footprint in the region.

Gitex Shopper, which has a track record of more than 20 years, witnessed a double-digit growth in sales during the last five years. Last year, the event's year-on-year sales increased by more than 23 per cent, the growth was 38 per cent in 2011 and 12 per cent in 2010.

Similar trend of growth is being recorded every year in terms of visitor numbers at the show with the exception of 2011 over 2010 that recorded a nearly two per cent growth. For the latest concluded Gitex Shopper, the organiser expects more than 200,000 visitors.

Open for 12 hours every day with a dedicated Metro station just metres from the door of the show, access to Gitex Shopper has never been easier. For drivers, ample parking is also available within easy proximity to the venue. Gitex Shopper is recognised as the single largest event for technology sales, in the region, encompassing ICT, consumer electronics, digital mobility, office automation, gaming and entertainment, domestic appliances and lifestyle and leisure products.

The shopping event brought together over 100 power retailers and leading technology names. As the largest consumer IT and electronics show in the Middle East, Gitex Shopper 2013 has once again attracted the world's top-class technology brands, as well as the biggest names in the retail sector. – Gulf News
