Google announced yesterday the 14 finalists of the national Doodle 4 Google 'My UAE' school competition. The company launched the competition in honour of the United Arab Emirates' 40th National Day and the winner will have his/her Doodle featured as the UAE National Day doodle on www.google.ae December 2nd.

For the past few weeks, Emirati school students have been busy "doodling" on the Google logo. More than 30 schools participated in the national competition, and an estimated 20,000 students registered to enter. Entries were divided into two age categories: Elementary (grade/level 1 - 6), and Secondary (grade/level 7 - 12).

Google believes in the talent residing in the UAE, and the competition is an opportunity to showcase the great creativity of Emirati schoolchildren through their artistic designs, enabling them to celebrate the nation in their own way on this important day.

Mohammed Mourad, Gulf Regional Manager, Google said: "This is just one way that Google likes to get involved in the Emirati community and connect with users to contribute to the local culture." Najeeb Jarrar, Product Marketing Manager, Google said: "It's been quite challenging to decide on the finalists from so many creative doodles, as there are so many talented students providing great insight into what the UAE means to them." The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 30th to announce the final winner. Ali Al Saloom, Founder of ‘Ask Ali' will be the honorary guest attending the prize giving ceremony, along with the students and their families. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
