Group visas limited to firms with at least 40 workers

Only companies with 40 or more workers will qualify for a group work permit. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has raised the cut off from 25 to 40 to keep better watch on the number of workers entering the country and to streamline applications.

A source at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs told Gulf News: "The Ministry has prepared a report that stipulates that only companies with 40 or more workers are given a group work permit. The new procedure will help us to monitor the market and reorganise the flow of labourers."

"The new procedure will clamp down on such companies and will not allow small companies to have a large number of surplus labourers. A committee will decide on the number of group permits to be granted for each company. This will help put a stop to unwanted labourers. "Workers entering the UAE on group work permits amount to more than 50 per cent of total workers in the UAE." He added that 40 per cent of permits were for groups of workers. (The Gulf News)
