Energy Minister of the UAE Mohammed Bin Dhaen Al-Hameli said Monday the pipeline which will transport oil between Habshan oil field in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah bypassing the Strait of Hormuz will be operational within six months. "The pipeline is almost complete but hopefully it will be operational within six months, by May or June," Al Hameli told reporters on the sidelines of the 3rd Gulf Intelligence UAE Energy Forum in Abu Dhabi.
The 360 kilometre pipeline has the capacity to transport between 1.5-1.8 million barrels a day, he said. "The project involves a lot of work as the pipeline has to be filled with crude and tested," he added. The UAE minister noted that oil will continue to play its significant role in the global energy mix in the decades to come. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
