The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA,) yesterday announced in partnership with the World Photography Organisation (WPO) - the upcoming launch of the "Global Perspective on Photography," an international photography showcase that will be held from 16 to 19 March, 2016 under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

The announcement took place at a press conference at HIPA's head offices, in the presence of Ali bin Thalith, Secretary General of HIPA, Mr. Scott Gray, Founder and CEO WPO, and Elda Cheatle, Head Curator of the large-scale exhibition.

The "Global Perspective on Photography" will showcase museum-quality international works by many of the most celebrated working photographers today, alongside some of the greatest works of the 20th century. Transcending boundaries between form, technique, and geographic region, the "Global Perspective on Photography" will foster dialogue on global photography from different cultures around the world while casting a light on the common cultural exchanges that define this art form.

Nineteen international curators will bring together works from 25 countries in a seamless visual experience that celebrates the harmony and diversity of global photography, in a presentation unique to this inauguration and a photography platform of this scale. Guided by the curatorial vision of Head Curator Zelda Cheatle and other world-renowned curators, including Martin Barnes (UK & Ireland), Els Barents (Belgium & Holland), Mariko Takeuchi (Japan), and Jassim Al Awadhi (UAE), visitors will witness the evolution of photography over the last two centuries and across the globe.

Ali bin Thalith, Secretary General of HIPA, commented, "HIPA is proud to be bringing to life this pioneering and unique showcase, allowing us to gather in one place the work of some of the most talented photographers from the UAE and around the world. By celebrating the skill and artistry of these masters of their craft, both contemporary and classical, HIPA aims to bring a photography perspective of unmatched scale and quality to the region, creating an international moment within the heart of Dubai."

"This inaugural event forms part of HIPA's wider ambition to create a "Dubai Photography Season." Inaugurated days after our Grand Event and alongside an expanding series of unique and bold photography workshops, the month of March will begin to see the evolution of a broad series of photography-led events that will put Dubai's photography scene on the international map."

Scott Gray, Founder and CEO of WPO, said, "Photography warrants a unique platform to showcase itself and drive its position forward within the global art community. As such, the World Photography Organisation is delighted to be able to work with HIPA on producing this exceptional exhibition, bringing together some of the greatest photography in the world through 19 leading international curators, and celebrating this fantastic medium."

The "Global Perspective on Photography" has been created by the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) to promote Dubai as a hub for local and international photography and to nurture photographic excellence through educational programs, events and workshops. It will provide a new cultural moment on the world's art calendar, while cultivating appreciation and fostering dialogue in the region.

This international photography showcase will take place from 16 – 19 March 2016 in Dubai, and will be held in a ‘temporary museum' purpose-built in the Dubai Design District (D3). Bringing together photography professionals, cultural institutions, curators and artists as well as a larger audience of art aficionados and appreciators, it will cement Dubai's vision of becoming a highly creative, connected and cultural city, in line with Dubai 2021 plan and Expo 2020. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395288943344.html
