The United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, had become a global hub for humanitarian initiatives and works that can make difference in human development fields, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), has said.

In a statement made yesterd to mark 32nd anniversary of the RCA, Sheikh Hamdan said under the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the UAE adopted a unique approach in enriching charitable and humanitarian works.

"The UAE has played a significant contribution in the transformation of aid from momentarily response at the times of crises and disasters to continuous development projects. This forward looking approach, enabled the country to become the world's largest donor of development assistance." he added.

Sheikh Hamdan praised the leadership's confidence in the RCA, which was reflected in the timely execution of major humanitarian initiatives and campaigns, last of which was the Compassion Campaign to help refugees affected by the cold wave in the Levant.

Sheikh Hamdan said the RCA was determined to continue its role and to follow the path of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of extending helping hands to the brotherly and friendly nations all over the world.

Sheikh Hamdan thanked the RCA's board of directors, staff and volunteers for their efforts in implementing its programmes both locally and globally. – Emirates News Agency, WAM –
